Honeybee Festival

For Lafayette’s annual Honeybee Festival, the City commissioned its first public art piece to activate a vacant lot and showcase the role of the arts in community development. Little Things Lab pulled in Good Stud.io to serve as design/build lead and artist Alecia Buckles to create a bright, participatory installation that invited festival-goers to shape the work throughout the day. Participants painted 320 small hexagons, each based on an engagement prompt, which were added to larger sculptural hexagons to form a colorful backdrop. By day’s end, more than 400 people had posed in front of the installation—transforming it into both a collective artwork and a vibrant centerpiece of the Honeybee Festival.
